Summary: | Energy sources from natural gas generally contain impurities in the form of acid gases such as CO2 and H2S which need to be separated in the processing of natural gas in acid gas removal unit (AGRU) to meet the gas sales agreement. H2S gas obtained in AGRU cannot be discharged directly into the environment because it can have a bad impact on both the environment and living things. One method of separating H2S from the gas output of the AGRU is absorption using alkaline solvents. This study aims to evaluate the effect of the concentration of solvent mixture NaOH and Na2CO3 and operating conditions on selectivity and efficiency of H2S absorption. In the operating range evaluated in this study, the optimum point of H2S absorption was at the L/G value of 0.065 for solvent with 5%-w NaOH concentration and 0.021 for solvent with 10%-w NaOH concentration. Gas output from the absorption process has H2S concentration at ?5 ppm and H2S recovery reaches 99.9%. However, the absorption results are still not selective for H2S because the majority of CO2 gas in the feed is also absorbed. The simulation results show that H2S absorption can achieve 100% recovery with selectivity above the experimental results in the range of NaOH concentration of 0.06% -w-1.3% -w for L/G 0.05 and L/G 0.009-0.017 for solvent concentration 5% -w NaOH. |
