INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/38744 The decline in the number of small contractors in Bandung Raya indicates that there are problems with small contractors to maintain their business. One of the main problems faced by small contractors is fluctuations in commodity costs. Fluctuations in commodity costs affect project value because 60% -80% of project value is allocated for commodity purchases. Factors that cause fluctuations in commodity costs that can be controlled by small contractors in order to withstand fluctuations in commodity costs are the value of commodity purchases by controlling commodity purchases. Commodities that are very diverse in construction commodities make it difficult to control all purchases of construction commodities so that commodity control will be focused on strategic commodities, namely commodities that have a large value and in the long term the availability of commodities influences the production process, in this case the construction process so commodities that have the potential to become strategic commodities are commodities with a large volume. In this study, identification of strategic commodities will be carried out on projects carried out by small contractors and analysis of trends in strategic commodity needs with the aim of being able to assist in controlling the purchase of strategic commodities and anticipating the needs of strategic commodities in the future. The method of data collection is done by studying literature on commodities that have the potential to become strategic commodities and the needs of strategic commodities, as well as survey methods in the form of questionnaires to small contractors regarding their responses to commodities that have the potential to become strategic commodities. Strategic commodity data processing methods use the Kraljic Matrix to determine commodity types (strategic, leverage, non-critical, and bottleneck) categories, and forecast time-series analysis to obtain trend lines for commodity needs. The results of the research questionnaire show that commodities classified as strategic based on the type of building are cement, sand, concrete, reinforcing steel, glass and brick for commodities in buildings and cement, sand, concrete, reinforced steel, asphalt, and aggregate for commodities in road infrastructure . The study of contract documents supports the results of the research questionnaire and found that there was considerable use of these commodities. The results of the contract document review are also used to find the equation of the trend line of strategic commodity needs. The results of the analysis of strategic commodity purchasing strategies for now depends on each commodity and the type of projects. The results of the analysis of future needs provide an overview of the upward trend, which is supported by annual GRDP data that always rises from 2014-2017. The conclusion of this study is that strategic commodities for buildings are cement, sand, concrete, reinforced steel, brick and glass, while for road infrastructure are cement, sand, concrete, reinforced steel, asphalt, and aggregate, and the need for strategic commodities is always increasing per year. text
