DESIGN DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH HEELS FOR BUNION WITH OPTICAL ILLUSION APPROACHES

Bunion is a disorder on the segment of the toe that can be caused by various things, such as the use of fancy footwear. Individuals who suffer from Bunion will find it difficult to move normally because of a lump that appears on the side of the foot due to the bone deformation process. High heels ar...

Individuals who suffer from Bunion will find it difficult to move normally because of a lump that appears on the side of the foot due to the bone deformation process. High heels are Bunion's biggest problem because they have a narrow space so that it can worsen Bunion's condition. However, in certain circumstances, these individuals cannot escape the use of high heels. So as to overcome this problem, in this study we will develop a high-heel design with extra space for Bunion patient. Increasing the extra space by 18.031 mm based on the sole statistical calculation resulted a high-heel that looked unbalanced and unproportional. 2D, 3D, and the combination optical illusion effects are then applied to the upper 3 pieces and the heels to change the perception of their imperfect or unbalanced shape and to make it look slimmer. The insole used is also made of memory foam by adding extra pads to the heel, foot pads, arch, and Bunion bumps area to protect it from friction and pressure. text
