Spatial configuration is defined as the geographical structure of airline networks [5]. Temporal configuration is defined as a certain organization of the airline flight schedule at an airline hub resulting in a certain number and quality of indirect connections offered through that airline hub [3]. We use Gini-index, Network Concentration Level, and network density for evaluating spatial configuration. We also use Danesi Weighted Connectivity by making modifications in connecting window for evaluating temporal configuration. The spatial configuration analysis shows that the 25 airlines all adopt hub and spoke with single or multi-hub. While the temporal configuration evaluation shows that the numbers of indirect connections are varied and highly dependent on the quality of wave-system structure. Spatial and temporal configuration parameters can be connected by plotting the two together. Plot showed the 25 airlines has adopted hub and spoke structure with the application of wave-system structure in airport hub. New parameter, Network Efficiency, was introduced as the ratio between total connections and direct connections. As another parameter of efficiency, a plot of Network Efficiency versus network density is made. The plot indicates a trend that the airline having a low network density also have a high Network Efficiency. Evaluation of the ranking among the 25 airlines shows Garuda Indonesia is placed in the bottom five positions. Garuda Indonesia adopts hub and spoke structure with three hub airports. Indirect connections accounted for 66% of total connections. text |
