The intermittent nature that has been the main issue of renewable plants also can be overcome, one of which by hybrid energy storage. One power plant type which is a combination of both is photovoltaic – battery storage hybrid power plant (PV-Battery Hybrid) which consist of photovoltaic power plant and battery storage system. A renewable power plant project that is going to be carried out in Indonesia is PVBattery Plant connected to a coal mining and processing power system in Bontang. The existing system itself is a stand-alone micro grid system which is not connected to larger grid such as PLN’s. Comparison between the photovoltaic capacity and existing system is quite large, where the photovoltaic capacity is 3 MWp, about 18% of 16.5 MW system existing peak load. Therefore a comprehensive feasibility study is required to ensure that the PV-Battery Plant will be well integrated with the existing system. The objective of this study is to analyze the feasibility of connecting the PV-Battery Hybrid to the Bontang Coal Mine Power System. Some included analyzes are power flow analysis, transient stability analysis, short circuit analysis, and coordination of protection analysis. The existing system and the PV-Battery Hybrid are modeled in a software to be simulated and analyzed based on some case test and determined criteria of feasibility. From the result it is concluded that interconnection of the PVBattery Hybrid to the existing system is technically feasible, with some notes of recommendations on the existing system setting. It is also expected that the detailed methodology presented in this study can be a reference for feasibility study of renewable power plant interconnection, especially regarding the connection of photovoltaic – battery storage power plant to microgrid. text |
