Description
Summary:The growth of technology affects learning method of education system with new concept such as mLearning. User interface design of mobile application is an important factor since it is the main interaction intermediary between system and user. Information must be clearly delivered and able to direct user attention in order to achieve goal. Design process challenge that often faced by designer is how to deliver information clearly but fulfilled aesthetic factors. Another challenge is to find one final design, designer must design it iteratively, exploratively and correctively. Previous studies tried to solve those problem by developing models that can help designers in the iteration process. However, there is no research focused on directing user attention of mobile application design. This study proposes a recommender system for design refinement of mobile application based on user attention model that aims to help designer in the iteration process of usability engineering. The proposed model is User Efficiency Model, which is expected to direct user attention to the most efficient components. The most efficient component is determined by calculating the steps of each component in order to complete certain goal. So, it is hoped that mLearning satisfy usability goal and user experience goal. Result of evaluation by comparing mLearning design show that there is an increment of attention energy in the user interface that created by referring the proposed model rather than user interface design that created manually. Proposed model successfully direct user attention to the most efficient component of each page. The results of usability evaluation shows that efficiency increased from 83.65% to 85.58% and user experience evaluation shows that discoverability successfully increase in the components that have the shortest step. However, this model does not successfully increase usability aspect, effectiveness.
