Red chili is the type of chili which price is unstable due to production fluctuations. One of the causes low production of red chili is the attack of pest, namely the fruit fly Bactrocera sp. The cause of fruit flies attracted chili is volatile substances produced by flowers and chili fruit. The aim of this research is to study the activity of Bactrocera sp. in 3 different varieties of Capsicum annuum (susceptible, resistant, and intermediate). The study was conducted on December 7th, 2018 until February 25th, 2019 in Block A Vegetable Crop Research Institute (IVEGRI). Sampling of male fruit flies is carried out by installing 5 steiner traps of methyl-eugenol-fed. Observations were carried out starting at 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by observing fruit flies that came in traps and on chili plants during the bud, flower and fruit phases (beginning, young and old) each of 3 consecutive days in 3 different chili varieties. Observation of activities is carried out every hour for 15 minutes by surrounding the research area. Recording the number of male fruit flies in traps is carried out every 2 hours. The results of the study found 4 species of fruit flies in the trap, namely Bactrocera papaya, B.dorsalis, B. fustibia, and B. philippinensis. Observed fruit fly activities consisted of exploring, foraging, sheltering and oviposition (lay eggs). Oviposition of female fruit flies was observed in the afternoon. Female fruit flies more often visited suseptible varieties rather than other varieties. The active time of fruit flies (afternoon, morning and evening) and the fruit fly population (bud phase, flowers and fruit) did not differ significantly (P-value> 0.05). Based on the Pearson correlation test, the relationship between temperature and light intensity shows a negative correlation while moisture shows a positive correlation to the number of trapped fruit flies. text
