Summary: | The presence of a vortex in stream allows a changes in flow velocity and
direction, such as occured in the pump suction where the influence of pump
impeller rotation has a significant impact to influence the direction of fluid flow
inside. Changes of flow direction in turbomachinery is directly related to the work
exchange.
To understand about two dimensional flow velocity and direction, it’s then
will be investigated in testing process by using direction-sensing probes method’s.
A measuring devices, flow angle tubes, which consist of two impact tubes are fed
by an incompressible fluid that in this case is water.
The testing process is conducted at several flow velocity and angle of attack
variation on the flow angle tube. All the test result then compared to theoritical
calculation on the same condition. The data that we can be obtained is pressure
difference between two tubes. This pressure difference enable us to know flow
velocity and it’s direction.
From this experiment result, we can obtain flow velocity and direction from
flow angle tube and then the influence of angle of attack and tube’s diameter on
the measurement accuracy. This result will be the subject for futher consideration
about flow velocity and it’s direction phenomenon, their application and a better
flow measurement device selection to perform this testing. Data from this testing
process still has many weakness too, so that expected development and
improvement are still needed for the next experiment. |
