INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/39267 Free Space Optic (FSO) is a wireless optical technology that uses air as a transmission medium. ?e FSO network was initially used for inter-satellite communication. But over time and the increasing of demand for this technology makes FSO is used in terrestrial communication. ?is study focuses on weather factors and atmospheric turbulence factors that can a?ect the performance of the FSO network by using the calculation of Signal-To-Noise Ratio (SNR) which is correlated with the e?ect of Bit Error Rate (BER). SNR calculations are based on the OOK modulation scheme which is divided into OOK-NRZ and OOK-RZ. Four wavelengths used as a comparison factor are 690 nm, 780 nm, 850 nm and 1550 nm. Several studies have tested each variation in di?erent wavelengths with the Bit Error Rate value reaches up to 10????10. ?e weather conditions used in this study foggy and rainy weather conditions with some previous research using a Gaussian Beam can produce SNR values up to 25 dB. ?is study compares the Gaussian Beam performance against Soliton Beam used in the process of sending information in an FSO. ?e result of applying Soliton beam in an FSO is an increase in transmission optimal distance that is 200 meters be?er than the Gaussian beam in very light conditions rain from 1.2 km for Gaussian signals to 1.4 km for Soliton signals, and very light fog condition from 1.4 km Gaussian Beam to 1.6 km using Soliton Beam. ?e Bit Error Rate value generated is up to 1060 times lower for foggy conditions and produce up to 1010 times lower in rain conditions when compared to Gaussian Beam. text
