STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT OF TRANSFORMING MERAK-BAHAUHENI PORT AS INTERMODAL CONNECTIVITY

PT. ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is a state-owned company in transportation sectors that provide port and ferry services who own and manage Port of Merak and Port of Bakauheni, the biggest ports and route in Indonesia. It plans to improve services and monetize the business opportunity of its strategic location, the critical role of the ferry port, and the development of a port ecosystem of Merak and Bakauheni Ports. The proposed solutions are improving on services and facilities both ports and vessels, developing intermodal connectivity and expanding the port as the final destination in order to attract customer. Intermodal Connectivity development in Port of Merak with TTM Bus Station, and Java Railway system, and on the other side connecting the Port of Bakauheni with Trans Sumatera Highway system. In transforming port, ASDP needs to develop a strategy model of services improvement for a variety of customer segments; to develop the business model of an integrated port ecosystem with a cross combination of transportation, commercials, and property development into Intermodal Connectivity toward to make Port as Final Destination; and to develop a strategy on resource selection combining three kinds of resource pathways namely Build (internal development), Borrow (basic contract and alliance strategy), and Buy (acquisition) to gather strategic resources needed simultaneously collaborating rather than focus on a single strategy.
