Summary: | Pelindo 3 is one of State-Owned Enterprise in port handling services as a terminal operator.
Pelindo 3 handle several cargos particularly container, dry bulk, general cargo, and liquid bulk in International and Domestic. In 2013-2018, Pelindo 3 particularly Tanjung Perak Port as the headquarter of Pelindo 3 encounter decreasing performance in some of the products. Dry bulk performance show decrease graph about 2-3% in 2013 to 2018, and the go down trend occur since 2016 to 2018. Then liquid bulk trend show a decline in last 6 years and the growth is under performance in the end of 2017 to 2018. The General cargo is the worst performance with the growth has decreased 3% in last 6 years. Moreover, container is the best performance which show positive growth 5% in 6 years.
Related to the problem, this study aims to find the root cause of decreasing performance and provide recommendation through some of analysis such as Pestel, SWOT, and Competitor analysis. The root cause analysis result shows the main problem of decreasing performance is weak product portfolio strategy planning and unoptimal forecasting method. Then, next analysis use AHP method with BOCR (Benefit, Opportunity, Cost, and Risk) criteria and several sub criterias to decide the priority of product portfolio and provide an example of forecasting method of each product.
AHP analysis result shows Container is the priority product in Benefit, Oppo rtunity, and Cost
criterias. Beside priorities analysis, AHP method also analyse the sensitivity each product of criteria weight changes. This analysis purpose to analyse stability of priorities rank. The result of priorities are container, dry bulk, general cargo, and liquid bulk. Container as the first priority product in product portfolio evaluation show unsensitivity of criteria change weight. Then, each product need to apply in forecasting methods with some of methods such as Decomposition, Box Jenkins, and Holt Winter to get projection in next year.
Therefore, this study have given a contribution for managerial on how to improve corporate performance through product portfolio strategy as part of planning process and the forecasting method.
