MAPPING SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT METHOD TO ESSENCE STANDARD AND ITS TOOL

Software development need to be done systematically in order to get the expected result according to the requirements. There are a lot of different methods to develop a software and each method have it’s own procedure and terminologies. To easily understand the core of a method, it can be mapped to Essence standard which is a standard that define the base and important things of a method. Essence explains things like activities that need to be done, competencies to do the works, and things to work with. The solution is to generalize different processes to map software development method to Essence standard and developing a tool to support the mapping process. The solution is to generalize different mapping processes and identify the steps that can be supported by the tool, and build a tool that support the mapping process. The development of the software is initialized by analyzing the mapping process and identifying which steps that can be automatized. The analysis is done by comparing different existing mapping processes. The result of the analysis is used to implement the tool, then the tool is tested. The end product is web application which is accessed by a desktop application and connected to a database server. The database is MongoDB and used to retrieve Essence concepts and to save the mapping result. After the tool is implemented, Scrum concepts are mapped to Essence standard using the tool to test the end product. Through testing, each functionality are working and the Scrum method is represented in Essence standard by the tool.
