Lemon oil yield enhancement can be obtained by biodelignification of lemon peel using Aspergillus oryzae that produces lignin degradation enzyme such as laccase, lignin peroxidase and manganese peroxidase. Aspergillus oryzae was incubated with lemon peel for 3-9 days using a solid state fermentation method. The yield of lignin and lemon oil were determined on 0th, 3rd, 6th and 9th day of fermentation. Lemon oil was extracted using steam distillation. On the 0th day, 200 gram of lemon peel produced 0,075 mL lemon oil. Lemon oil yield increased as the incubation time increased. Lemon oil yield was recorded at 0,272%, 0,292%, 0,298%, and 0,67% dry weight for 0th, 3rd, 6th and 9th day of incubation respectively. Lignin content decreased as incubation day increased. Lignin content of lemon peel was determined as 8,01%, 7,275%, 7,08%, and 5,44% on 0th, 3rd, 6th and 9th day of incubation respectively. The composition was also affected by incubation time such as limonene. Limonene content of lemon oil reached up to 72,54%, 100%, 84,56%, and 89,43% on 0th, 3rd, 6th and 9th day of incubation respectively. text |
