The evolving process of building prefabrication is triggering development for
modular housing construction. This kind of construction still depend on mining
and not sustainable materials. Modular Wooden Block invention (patent number
P00201700592) takes part in contributing fast and sustainable alternative for
building construction, especially using standard size of engineered fast growing
wood materials. Modular Wooden Block consist of modular building component
variants, which has interlocking profile for construction assembly. It is basically
for wall construction only. In this research, variants of Modular Wooden Block is
being developed for building envelope and room partition design flexibility,
including roof, wall, and floor. According to a digital fabrication research, Shape
Grammar theory can be used for developing wooden building components
through CAD drawing. Shape Grammar in this research is applied for defining
function to sub divide components, and construction detail for fabrication.
Research questions are how to generate ordered moduless using interlocking
Modular Wooden Block pattern for design flexibility, and make building
construction design quantified. Design testing proves that the basic Modular
Wooden Block design is not flexible for generating room configurations while
using blocks as floor module. New modules emerge for more efficient design and
costruction phase. |
