Description
Summary:Pedestrian density has become a common phenomenon that must be considered, especially in public facilities, such as train stations. One way to assess pedestrian density and service is to analyze the level of service (LOS). In this study, the study area is the LRT station and sky bridge of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport, Palembang, precisely in the walkable areas, waiting rooms and platforms. The analysis was carried out using a microscopic simulation model that is able to identify interactions between pedestrians and vehicles, namely Viswalk. In order for the microsimulation model to represent the conditions of the observation, the walking behavior parameters must be statistically calibrated and validated. The classification of LOS is done by following the standards of Transit Capacity and Quality of Service Manual with the average pedestrian density as an indicator. The results showed that walkable areas, waiting rooms, and platforms in LRT station and sky bridge of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport always provide the highest service quality represented by LOS A. This indicates that the requirement of the Rail Corporation Company state that stations and buildings must have at least LOS C, has been fulfilled. However, in extreme conditions when the number of LRT passengers is equal to the number of flight passengers at peak hour, two areas cannot provide good service performance. Therefore, efforts must be made to improve the LOS by requiring the use of smartcards and expanding the waiting area and platform area of the LRT station.
