Description
Summary:Electroless nickel plating is plating process that deposit the element of nickel and phosphorous. Electroless nickel plating can produce a coating with a good corrosion and wear resistance. Futhermore, the coating thickness of electroless nickel plating is uniform in all sides, unlike the thickness of coating from electroplating process. In this research, coating processes will be done by varying the duration of the plating time (1,5, 2, 2,5 hour) at 85oC and pH 7,5. Then the plating process continue by varying the concentration of nickel chloride (30g/L, 45 g/L, 60 g/L, 100 g/L) at pH7.5 for 2 hours. The coatings were heated at 350oC, 400oC, 450oC for 1 hour. The outcomes show that the hardness of the surface of the coating increases with the increase of plating time. Electroless nickel plating that was conducted with 60g/L nickel chloride concentration produce the high hardness (474,9 ± 30,5 VHN ). However, the hardness decrease when the concentration is increased until 100 g/L (439,7 ± 22,1 VHN).. Heat treatment process at 400oC produce highest hardness of 636,6 ± 46,0 VHN and then decreases to 538,9 ± 26,2 VHN when heated at 450oC. The low hardness value is caused by the decrease of Ni3P and the growth of grain size.
