One of the limiting factors of the application of this knowledge on a large scale is the high mortality rate in young larvae. Young larvae are relatively sessile so they are very dependent on the quality of food around them, so that information make the basis of this study where observations were made on the effect of different culture media composition and strains from BSF eggs on larval survival until 1 week of age. The media used are fish flour, fish feed (pellets), tofu dregs, papaya, and green mustard where all ingredients are dissolved or mashed so that they have a minimum moisture content of 70%. On the other hand, BSF eggs come from Ciamis, Sidoarjo, Bogor and from culture of the School of Life Sciences and Technology itself. About 10,000 eggs (0.5gr) were placed on 15gr media in a petri dish, then left for 7 days where the number of living larvae was calculated at the end of the observation period. Each treatment was carried out with 2 repetitions and the different effects between each treatment were compared statistically using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The results showed that the media composition and strain (origin of the egg) had a significant effect on the percentage of larval survival (P <0.05). The highest survival of larvae was found in the treatment with the media composition of fish feed and Bogor strain, while the lowest was in green mustard and Ciamis strain. It can be concluded that the culture media composition and strains from eggs influence the survival of first instar larvae for one week. text
