Hermetia illucens larvae can be used as an alternative protein source for fish feed
because it has a high protein content. This study aims to determine the potential
utilization of H. illucens larvae fed with a mixture of organic waste from fish
offal, tofu pulp, and banana peel as an alternative protein source for fish feed.
Potential utilization of H. illucens larvae was determined based on larval growth
and development, WRI, ECD, and proximate analysis of H. illucens pupae. 7-dayold
larvae were treated with organic waste feed in 4 treatments, namely control,
high, medium, and low protein feed (60 mg/larva/day). Data were analyzed
statistically using One-Way ANOVA and Post-Hoc Tukey test (P <0.05). The
results showed that larvae with low protein feed treatment has the best growth
(growth rate 3.47 mg/larvae/day; body weight 65.69 mg/larvae), the fastest
development towards the prepupa (19 days), and the highest feed reduction and
conversion (WRI 1.93; ECD 12.92%). The highest protein content is found in
larvae with moderate protein feed treatment (50.35%), the highest carbohydrate
content (27.59%) is found in larvae with high protein feed treatment, and the
highest fat content (21.37%) is found in larvae with low protein feed treatment.
From this study, it can be concluded that H. illucens larvae are able to reduce and
convert a mixture of organic waste from fish offal, tofu pulp, and banana peel, and
have the potential to be used as alternative protein sources for fish feed.
