INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/39770 advantages over GEO satellite such as cheaper production cost, easy to get spacecraft components, shorter manufacturing time and low complexity. One of the implementations of nanosatellite is maritime communication between ship and ground station, which is called automatic identification system (AIS). Even so, ground station has limitations regarding the maximum distance the AIS signal, sent by ships, can still be received. One of the solutions is to use satellite as a relay point, so that ships located further away from the shore can still be detected in AIS. The purpose of this final thesis is to implement communication system which supports AIS on CubeSat. The writer uses SDR with GNU Radio software on LimeSDR-USB. The communication system is divided into three major parts, AIS, data communication and TT&C, which uses VHF, S-band and UHF respectively. DPSK is used on data communication, while GMSK is used on AIS and TT&C. The system is tested based on modulator and demodulator performance, doppler shift mitigation and link budget analysis. CubeSat is assumed to orbit at 400 km above the earth. Based on the results, modulator and demodulator can send and receive data. For better performance, LPF is implemented on GMSK demodulator to increase SNR. text
