THE STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF NAH2PO2 CONTENT, HEAT TREATMENT TEMPERATURE, AND DURATION OF HEATING ON ELECTROLESS NICKEL PLATING

Materials when used in industry require long life to reduce the cost of replacement or maintenance. Factors that can determine this resistance are wear resistance and corrosion resistance. The method that can be used is surface treatment. One method of surface treatment is Electroless Nickel Plating...

Factors that can determine this resistance are wear resistance and corrosion resistance. The method that can be used is surface treatment. One method of surface treatment is Electroless Nickel Plating. This experiment was carried out with an electroless nickel process on low carbon steel with a pH of 7.5 for 90 minutes at a temperature of 85 ?. Electroless nickel solution was used according to the composition of Bath 1 ASM Volume 5. In addition it was also carried out with variations in the composition of NaH2PO2. After that the sample was given heat treatment with temperature variations of 300,350,400,450 oC, and heat treatment with variations in heating time 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, and 120 minutes at a temperature of 400oC. The surface hardness of the sample increased after electroless nickel from VHN to 523 ± 22.2 VHN at 11g / l NaH2PO2 levels. After being given heat treatment, the surface hardness increased with the highest point of 1022 ± 52 VHN at a heating temperature of 400oC, for 1 hour, with NaH2PO2 levels of 11g / l. The XRD characterization results showed the presence of Ni3P precipitates and an increase in the percentage of crystallinity after heat treatment with the highest point in the sample with the greatest hardness. text
