Indirect observation of tides can be done using GPS (Global Positioning System) technology. The principle is to use multipath signals that are received by GPS signal receiver from the sea surface to determine continuous sea level. The GPS signal receiver is installed so that the multipath signal received only comes from the sea surface. Changes in observed sea level can be analyzed to determine tides. The location of tidal observation stations can affect the quality of tidal data produced. Site selection surveys were conducted to obtain information about the best location for placement of tidal observation stations. Site selection activities are carried out by analyzing the reflection of GPS signals in several locations on the island of Matak, Kepulauan Riau Province. The results of site selection showed that 9 out of 40 locations met the criteria as suitable locations for installation of sea level height observation stations with GPS. text |
