When the sounding activity locates in the middle of the high seas and far away from the tide station, there is a tidal characteristic difference between those two locations. Differences in tide characteristic effect tide data from the tide station doesn’t represent the tidal activity at the sounding location. This research uses GNSS technology with RT-PPP method as the alternative method to obtain tide data at the sounding location. Tide data from this method obtained from processing geodetic height data of the vessel using a simple low pass filter to remove the waves information with height frequency. RMSE values from the comparison of tide correction values and the average of corrected depth difference value from both methods is calculated to know the reliability of RT-PPP method to tide station observation method. There are two RMSE values and average of corrected depth difference in this research, the first one is the RMSE value of RT-PPP method before a low pass filter is 0.156 m with an average difference of the corrected depth value is 0.125 m and the second one is the RMSE value of RT-PPP method after a low pass filter is 0.048 m with an average difference of corrected depth value is 0.04 m. Tide correction differences from both methods cause by some factors like measurement errors and data quality that used. Refer to the bathymetry map which provide the depth information in meter or feet (1 feet = 0.303 m), the average of corrected depth differences from both methods is not significant and indicate that RT-PPP method is capable to do the tide correction for sounding data. text |
