This study was carried out to analyze the potential of black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) as a raw material for production of biodiesel. Black soldier fly larvae were divided into 2 groups, one was fed with 1 kg of rotten avocado and the other with 1 kg of mixture between rotten avocado and tofu residue (1:1) every 3 days. Humidity: 34- 89-99.21 %, temperature: 19.01-38.45 oC and light intensity: 0.03-46.804 W/m2. Oil yield using immersion method for larvae fed with rotten avocado and mixture of rotten avocado and tofu residue were 40.5% and 34.4% (oil weight/ dry weight), respectively. Biodiesel were produced via transesterification using lipase as a catalyst and methanol as an alcohol source at room temperature (26 oC) stirring speed of 200 rpm for 24 hours. Biodiesel yield from larvae fed with rotten avocado and mixture of rotten avocado and tofu residue were 72.24% and 54.20% (biodiesel weight/ oil weight), respectively. In contrast, biodiesel yield using chemical catalyst yield were 53.90% for avocado and 37.24% for the mixture (biodiesel weight/ oil weight), which was lower than the yield of enzymatic transterification. The biodiesel has a methyl ester content of 84.32% for avocado source and 93.15% for the mixture. Acid value of the biodiesel were 26.2 mg of KOH/ g of biodiesel for avocado source and 8.59 mg of KOH/ g of biodiesel for the mixture. Iodine value were 65.05 mg of I/ g of biodiesel for avocado source and 72.51 mg of I/ g of biodiesel for the mixture. Total glycerol content was 0.2534% for avocado source. Biodiesel produced from black soldier larvae fed with avocado composed of lauric acid (28.47%), oleic acid (23.73%), and linoleic acid (15.38%). Biodiesel produced from black soldier fly larvae fed with the mixture composed of lauric acid (19.20%), oleic acid (22.07%), and linoleic acid (22.12%). text
