The number of single parent household in Indonesia is increasing from year to year, many are caused by divorce, death, or pregnancy out of wedlock. Different family structure affects the psychological development of the children, which will later be realized during the period of adolescence. Adolescence is a transition period from childhood to adulthood, many drastic psychological developments and changes may occur, such as changes in behavior or attitude. Even though not all adolescents from single parent families are unruly individuals, there is a negative stigma in Indonesian society that these people are often considered problematic due to the absence of one parent, when in fact, there are many adolescents from single parent families that turned out to be more capable individuals than teenagers with nuclear families. However, it is undeniable that there are some teenagers in single parent families who have their own problems as well. In Indonesia, the story of single parent families has been told and published many times on the media, but it is rare to find a media that tells a story of a single parent family from the adolescents’ perspective. The lack of representation in the media can cause the struggles of these people to be overlooked, or viewed negatively, merely because there are many people that did not know the story behind them. Therefore, a media that can convey the feelings and experiences of adolescents from single parent families, who tend to be overlooked or forgotten, is needed. The most effective media in conveying these messages and stories is through films. The type of film to be designed is an animated film, due to the unlimited visual expressions, thus making the delivery of message to be more effective. text |
