Summary: | Various types of shale have been used extensively in the construction and many
problems have been encountered, including embankment failure, slope instability
and others.
There are several things that cause this clay shale soil to be studied, namely the
magnitude of the shear strength value, which varies from one geological formation
to another geological formation.
The study was conducted with the aim of obtaining the characterization of
Cisomang clay shale from the index properties and shear strength of compacted
shale and obtaining parameters A and B Skempton to describe clay shale shear
strength in saturated conditions with a value of B ? 0.95.
The results of the calculation of the field water content were 20,7%, the results of
the modified proctor test showed that the optimum water content (wopt) was 16.1%
and the maximum dry weight (????d,max) was 17.3 kN / m3 and the void ratio (e) was
0, 54.
The shear strength parameters of the triaxial CU test results were obtained with an
effective cohesion value (c ') of 35.88 kPa, the effective angle of shear (ø') was
33.05o and total cohesion cT = 21.95 kPa, the total angle of shear was øT = 24, 31o.
With a skempton parameter value of 0.31, this soil specimen is classified as
overconsolidated clays or compacted sandy clays.
From the results of the uniaxial compression test the compacted shale soil has very
stiff consistency with a typical medium clay / Sandy clay. |
