Description
Summary:Oil recovery of an oil field production is very important in an oil and gas project with no exception for heavy oil reservoir. Among several oil recovery method, steamflooding through thermal displacement process could significantly increase oil recovery by decreasing oil viscosity, which the degree of viscosity reduction is higher compared to displacement by hot water or gas. Sensitivity of several production parameters were done to see their effects on steamflood performance. This study examines steamflood performance with approach of numerical thermal simulation. First, the effect of flood pattern on steamflood performance in the 4-layer generic model was investigated. Then, two models with different thickness were built to examine the effects of injection depth and single-twin well injection on steamflood performance. In order to quantify steamflood performance, total cumulative oil production and recovery factor are set to be the main focus. The results of flood pattern sensitivity show that increasing the number of production wells around injection well will increase the cumulative oil production. Increasing of total cumulative production will also occur with increasing perforation depth of injection well, where the recovery factor ranges from 63 to 71%. While the result of single and twin well simulation shows that twin well resulting higher total cumulative production even for very thick reservoir, with recovery factor ranges between 75-78% for 100 ft reservoir and 76-80% for 450 ft reservoir. The conclusion of this studi is that the highest total cumulative oil production and its recovery factor can be obtained by using inverted 9-spot pattern, placing perforation of the injection well at the bottom of reservoir, and using twin well injection.
