Summary: | Well completion mode selection must be considered after drilling a well. Selected well completion mode should be suitable according to geological condition of the drilled formation. Production problems such as water coning, sand production, and other production problems must also be considered. Most common completion mode had been used include perforated completion, open hole completion, slotted liner completion, and gravel pack completion. (Renpu, 2011).
Geological condition is the main factor that determines well completion mode selection. To analyze the geological condition, the first step is review lithology data of the formation. From lithology data, can be seen what formations are drilled by well and the characteristics of the formation for each depth. Pressure test data also needed to be reviewed to analyze possible production problems. Pressure log data also reviewed to analyze the percentage of cuttings lithology and total gas for each depth.
After analyzing geological condition by reviewing lithology data, pressure test data, wireline logging data, and pressure test data, can be determined that the well being reviewed is not suitable to apply gravel pack, slotted liner, or open hole completion. The most suitable completion mode for the well is perforated completion due to large difference of pressure and the lithology of the formation which varies for each depth. After selecting the right completion mode, which is perforated completion, the next step is to design pressure drawdown of perforation based on formation permeability and density. |
