Summary: | Increasing demand for fossil fuels forces innovation to improve hydrocarbon production. Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is an approach to solve the problem, however, technical complexity and sophisticated technology are commonly needed to support the EOR project. The condition causes the cost of an EOR project to be relatively high. Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR) considerably has the potential to be reliable technology which suits the economic constraints of the current oil market and gives a less environmental impact.
MEOR uses microorganisms which their metabolites can modify parameters in the reservoir to improve oil production. Microorganisms or its bio-products are injected to the reservoir. Huff and Puff injection as an innovation which allows injection without additional well can be an excellent choice for the project. There are several bio-products used in the oil industry. Bio-surfactant, as one of the bio-product, can modify interfacial tension and oil viscosity in the reservoir.
This study presents the determination of optimum parameters in Bio-surfactant Huff and Puff injection at Field X, which has three wells as the candidates. This study uses a commercial simulator as the tool to obtain the result. The critical parameters studied in this paper are the period of soaking time, injection rate, and time of injection. The methodology of this study determine the optimum parameters in serial. The optimum period of soaking time is used in injection rate analysis, and the optimum value of those parameters are used in the time of injection analysis. This study is in the scope of a field, but the determination of optimum parameters are based on the condition of each well because Huff and Puff injection is still categorized as well stimulation. At last, the optimum parameters are used to forecast the incremental of oil production. |
