The study was conducted to evaluate prescribing pattern of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) in primary health care. The method that used in this study was retrospective descriptive study for the period December 2018 –May 2019 at eight primary health cares in Bandung. A purposive sampling was used to select the sample which form a prescription period December 2018 as a sample data. The parameter that analyzed in this study were demographic data, drug use patterns and potential of Drug Related Problems (DRP) which consist of drug dose, drug duplication and potential drug interactions. Potential DRP was analyzed based on classification of DRP by PCNE. From 2,519 prescription of NSAID, there were 1,596 female patients (63.46%) and 923 male patients (36.54%). Mostly, patients of the age range 46-55 years old (23.70%) were prescribed NSAID. The type of NSAID were diclofenac sodium (40.87%), ibuprofen (34.19%), mefenamic acid (24.70%) and piroxicam (0.24%). NSAIDs were most often combined with vitamin B complex (24.49%) and NSAID mostly prescribed with combination of two drugs (42.76%). Subtherapeutic dose and duplication of NSAID were 5.71% and 0.44% respectively. There were 26 potential drug interactions with major clinical significance (57.69%), moderate (30.77%) and minor (11.54%) and drug interactions in the pharmacodynamic stage (76.92%) and pharmacokinetics (23.08%). The most drug combinations that had potential interactions was ibuprofen with dexamethasone (10.68%). Based on the results, the prescribing NSAIDs at eight primary health cares in Bandung weren’t appropriate. text |
