The use of antenna is various from individual, industry sector, commerce, government, military defense, and so forth. One of antenna’s appliance for today’s communication need is the SDR (Software Defined Radio). SDR is a radio-frequency communication in digital communication where most of the hardware parts are controlled using the software, either in the transmitter or receiver. In other words, SDR uses the software to control the functionalities of the hardwares. For the need of SDR, the designed antenna must match the specifications to be able to optimally and effieciently transmit and receive signal in the operating frequency desired. In this final work there is a design of a ground-plane ?/4 monopole vertical antenna as a transmitter and receiver for the purpose of radio-amateur RF communication. Antennas are expected to work properly and are resonant within the operating frequency. This type of antenna is selected because of the simple design and it requires not many resources to fabricate. The antenna is expected to operate within the frequency range of UHF (300 MHz to 3 GHz), particularly in the ISM band which is 433 MHz. The frequency range is selected as it is the radio-frequency range that is very commonly used for radio amateurs. The dimension of antenna should match the operating frequency. The design process is first done by determining the antenna’s specification, then do some simulations by software to be able to optimize the design and making sure the accordance with the specification when the antennas are to be fabricated later on. After the simulation results have been matched with the specification desired, then the fabrication can be started. The implementation of antenna is begun after the fabrication process, that is the process of measuring the antenna parameters. The results of the antennas measurements are to be matched with the specifiaction and simulation results so that they can be used for the application of radio-amateurs. text
