Summary:Semarang is one of the waterfront cites that has periodic problems such as flood. To avoid this problem, floodway was build in Semarang for decreasing the flood’s debit. There are two floodway in Semarang which are Banjir Kanal Barat (West Floodway) and Banjir Kanal Timur (East Floodway). Semarang East Floodway is an artificial river that is carried out the water from Penggaron River to Java Sea. This floodway was made to overcome the problem of flooding in the eastern’s Semarang due to the flow from the Penggaron River and high tidal flood around the coast. The problems that occur in Semarang East Floodway were (1) river style coefficient was 0.12 with medium category, (2) type of soil was alluvial which saved more ground water and the drainage density was 0.48 with medium category, (3) had high rainfall, (4) land subsidence in Semarang reaches more than 2,2 cm / year, (5) the slopes around the river tend to be flat, (6) erosion and sedimentation in river bodies, and (7) presence garbage and buildings on the riverbank. Some ways to reduce flooding in Semarang East Floodway were (1) normalization, (2) optimizing the door of Pucang Gading Dam, (3) increasing the capacity of Tenggang River, and (4) developing a polder system by installing a 20.5 GW water pump in Pedurungan Lor, 8,067 GW in Jebungan, and 5,867 GW in Kaligawe.
