The objective of this study was to obtain gel peel-off mask from avocado leaf extract that met pharmaceutical requirements. This research was started by collecting crude drug, crude drug characterization, extraction, extract characterization, formulation and evaluation. Crude drug was extracted with 96% ethanol. The antioxidant activity of ethanolic extracts of avocado leaves gave IC50 DPPH in 1,65 ± 0,07 ?g/mL. Gel base formulation made with variations concentration of PVA and gelling agent (carbomer, HPMC). The gel base with a concentration of 12% PVA and 0,6% HPMC was chosen as the best base. The orientation of final formula was carried out with variations in the concentration of extracts. F3 formula was chosen as the best formula that was able to accommodate 2,5% of extract. Evaluation of gel peel-off mask include organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, syneresis, spreadability test, drying time, skin irritation and ocular test, antioxidant activity, and test on skin moisture level that consist of skin elasticity test and assessment of transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Evaluation gel was carried for 28 days at 25?dan 40?. The results of stability test showed that gel peel-off mask was stable during storage based on homogeneity, pH, viscosity, syneresis and spreadability test. Gel does not have an irritating effect on the dermal and ocular irritation tests. The IC50 of antioxidant activity of gel peel-off mask was 1,83 ± 0,07 ?g/mL. Statisticaly analysis of gel peel off mask made in this study did not show any significant in increasing of skin elasticity and decreasing of TEWL. text |
