LNG VALUE CHAIN OPTIMIZATION TO ACHIEVE SUSTAINABLE ELECTRIFICATION IN EASTERN INDONESIA

The Eastern Region of Indonesia is characterized by the lowest electrification ratios; Papua region estimated to have 61.42% electrification rates in 2017, while Java and Kalimantan has higher than 80% electrification rates. Electricity can be generated from different energy sources, such as coal,...

Electricity can be generated from different energy sources, such as coal, oil, high-speed diesel, hydro, etc. However, in recent years LNG stood out with its abundance and environment-friendly advantage. The objective of this study is to optimize the LNG value chain of Ganeca Field for achieving sustainable electrification of Eastern Indonesia. A cluster LNG Project is proposed to supply gas to every district of Eastern Indonesia. The methodology starts with the determination of gas field production scenario to yield the maximum production rate and the number of wells. Then, the examination of current electricity demands in Eastern Indonesia, followed by, the distribution plan of the cluster LNG project. Lastly, the economic analysis of the optimum production scenario to achieve maximum NPV is discussed using the evolutionary algorithm solver optimization method. The Indonesia’s Gross Split calculation was used for the economic analysis. The optimization production scenario shows a result of maximum field production rate and well numbers of 2500 MMSCFD and 17 wells respectively within two constraints, i.e.: maximum well rate of 150 MMSCFD and contract length of 20 years. The maximum NPV with 10% discount factor value of the optimum production is 16,913.8 MMUSD for contractor and 46,700.4 MMUSD for government based on Indonesia’s Gross Split Agreement. The field gas production resulted in 94.6% of gas produced is used for export supply and 5.4% for domestic supply Ultimately, a cluster LNG has proved to achieve sustainable electrification in Eastern Indonesia. High profit, either for contractor and government, is being proposed based on production scenario strategy using an Evolutionary Algorithm solver optimization method. text
