Summary: | Smoking is a common thing in society. The danger of smoking in health can attack all of the organs
inside the body. Based on Riskesdas data, the prevalence of smoking from the population aged
10-19 years has increased from 2013 (7.2%) to 2018 (9.1%). Smoking cases at a young age are
overcome by preventing smoking from an early age, one of which is by increasing students'
knowledge about the dangers of smoking. This study aims to evaluate the level of knowledge and
behavior changes of students after participating in the educational activities of the dangers of
smoking and to determine the appropriate method of providing education to junior high school
students. This research was conducted in three junior high schools in Bandung with a total of 459
students. The research data uses primary data by giving questionnaires to students to obtain
retrospective data, including demographic data and student smoking status, and concurrent data
by measuring students' knowledge of the dangers of smoking. Education is done through
presentation methods, leaflets, and joints. The level of students’knowledge about the dangers of
smoking before getting education is quite good (43.9%) and after getting education the level of
knowledge of students becomes good (55.4%) to very good (44.2%). Students’behavior shows
improvement measured by decreasing the number of students who do not want to quit smoking,
before (30.4%) and after (4.3%) receiving education and decreasing the number of students who
want to try smoking before (25.5%) after (1.4%) received education. Education can increase
students 'knowledge about the dangers of smoking and can change students' attitudes towards
smoking behavior, namely decreasing desire to smoke and increasing desire to quit smoking. The
right educational method of the danger of smoking for junior high school students is the leaflet
method.
