Traditionally, roselle calyx (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) and field sowthistle leaves (Sonchus arvensis L.) have been used to reduce inflammation. The aim of this study was to determine the antiinflammatory effects of a single or combination dose of roselle and field sowthistle aqueous extract. In this antiinfammatory study, six groups of male wistar rats were injected with carrageenan 1% on theirs paw by intraplantar route to induced inflamation, which 30 minutes previously had been given suspension of CMC-Na 1% (control) , ibuprofen 40 mg/kg bw (comparison drug), a single dose 80 mg/kg bw of roselle and field sowthistle extract, a combination dose of 80-80 mg/kg bw as well as a combination of 40-40 mg/kg bw from roselle and field sowthistle extract per oral according to the prescribed group. Rat’s paw volume measured at T0, T30, T60, T90, T120, T150, and T180 after induction using pletismometer. The results showed an antiinflammatory effect had occurred from all extracts with various doses (p<0.05) since T30when compared to control group. The percentage of inflammatory inhibition at T180 when compared to control group from single dose 80 mg/kg bw of field sowthistle and roselle, then combination dose of 80-80 mg/kg bw and combination dose of 40-40 mg/kg bw from both extract in a row was 26.28%, 29.37%, 43.62%, and 32.40%. There are no significant differences in the use of single or combination doses (p> 0.05). Based on the percentage of inflammatory inhibition, all extracts with various doses showed an antiinflammatory effect when compared with control group and the best antiinflammatory activity is indicated by a combination dose of 80-80 mg/kg bw from field sowthistle and roselle extract and there is no effect on the use of single or combination doses of antiinflammatory activity. text |
