Summary:Some places in the world are well-known for its romantic spirit, such as Eiffel Tower in Paris or Romantische Strasse in Germany. In Indonesia, Bandung is one of cities that believed to also have the spirit of romantic. But what makes these places have the romantic impression is unknown; research on the physical or spatial setting that stimulate this impression also limited. This grounded research aims to discover the romantic elements of the spirit of place in Bandung’s public open spaces. Accidental sampling was used as sampling method. Qualitative questionairs were distributed and broadcast using online social media or online chatting apps, thus, people who live or visited Bandung might participate. From data text analysis, it is found that there are six public open spaces believed to be the most romantic places and nine elements that bringing up its romantic spirit in Bandung's public spaces. These six places are Braga Street Corridor, City Hall’s Park, Dago Pakar’s Area, Moko’s Hill, Bandung Forest Park, and Bandung Central Park; with the nine key-elements identified in making the spirit of romantic: (1) fascination, (2) tranquility, (3) cool temperature, (4) being away, (5) dynamic lighting, (6) natural setting, (7) supporting facility, (8) sitting space, and (9) uniqueness. However, these research findings are hypothetical; thus other researchers might duplicate the method or do it quantitatively to improve its result.
