Description
Summary:Sediment retention service mentions in all the main international classifications among the regulation ecosystem services (MA, TEEB, CICES). It refers to the capacity of ecosystems to regulate the quantity of sediment that reaching the stream network, and deliver many benefits like maintaining soil and water quality and the functions of reservoir in the city. This paper purpose is to assess the link between sediment retention service provided by the cover of vegetation and the possible land cover changes in 2013 to 2018 and 2018 to 2023 in many configurations of land cover (Business as Usual, Development, and Conservation) on the upper Citarum watersheed, West Java. This paper considers the recent changes in the land cover (2013-2018) and develops three land cover scenarios with seven variable that driving the land cover changes. For each simulated land cover map (2013, 2018, 2023 BAU, 2023 Development and 2023 Conservation) this paper compared value of sediment retention services by using indicators sediment retention, sediment export and total potential soil loss. The one of this results is that the sediment retention show the highest decrease in the sediment retention service for the scenario of Development and the highest increase for the Conservation scenario. Overall, our results show that the tools and models used can deliver relevant results and can be used for future local landscape planning.
