REINVENTING PUBLIC SPACE: REARRANGEMENT OF JL. MARGONDA RAYA CORRIODOR AS A RESPONSE TO PRESERVE THE PUBLIC SPACE IN DEPOK

The fragment of Jl. Margonda Raya corridor which located adjacent to DKI Jakarta area, become the main street and entrance of Depok City. It make the area grow as strategic area and one of center activitiesfor the community. But, the rapid development that occured at the area had negativity impact of decrasing the quality of outdoor space of Depok City, especially the street corridor which can not longer be used as a public space to accommodate activities of the community. Considering the importance of street corridor for the urban life, it needed a respone to restore the function of it as public space. One of respons is by reinventing process. Reinventing process of the fragment of Jl. Margonda Raya corridor it has main purpose to restore the function of street corridor as a place that community want to come by rearrangement the physical environment. Furthermore, the reinventing process also performed with placemaking approach, to make the process is not only focus on the physical environment, but also on the meaning and activity too. The rearrangement process of the fragment of Jl. Margonda Raya corridor is based on two main consideration, first is the pattern of usage area as a trade and service function, the second is the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) as the development concept. It resulting of four segmentation and five activity node that become the focus of the designing process.
