PT ABC as the manufacturer realized the importance of standards compliance that are foundation of the design process on this sleeping car. Passenger comfort is one of the factors to be taken into account in designing the train cars. This research aims to evaluate the conditions that must be met, either the design requirements from the customer, the international standard, or design standards that PT ABC has. The other objective is to make technical specification of AC unit. Analytic calculations was conducted by calculating the heat gain in the carriage. Numerical solution using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software was used to validate temperature and air speed distribution inside the cabin of coach, and the specification of HVAC unit. The evaluation of design requirement and analytical calculation, found that the mass flow rate and air temperature entry are 1,38 m3/s, 12,2°C (summer) and 0,63 m3/s, 50,5°C (winter) respectively. The research also found that the HVAC unit selected is Faiveley (2 units) with location at both ends of the coach. This selection are supported by numerical calculation from Fluent (CFD) that found the temperature and air speed are 24,16C and 0,38 m/s at 1,1 m from the floor, respectively text |

Sleeping car (couchette coach) orders of XYZ has requirements and
standard specifications that must be met. PT ABC as the manufacturer realized the
importance of standards compliance that are foundation of the design process on
this sleeping car. Passenger comfort is one of the factors to be taken into account
in designing the train cars.
This research aims to evaluate the conditions that must be met, either the
design requirements from the customer, the international standard, or design
standards that PT ABC has. The other objective is to make technical specification
of AC unit. Analytic calculations was conducted by calculating the heat gain in
the carriage. Numerical solution using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)
software was used to validate temperature and air speed distribution inside the
cabin of coach, and the specification of HVAC unit.
The evaluation of design requirement and analytical calculation, found that
the mass flow rate and air temperature entry are 1,38 m3/s, 12,2°C (summer) and
0,63 m3/s, 50,5°C (winter) respectively. The research also found that the HVAC
unit selected is Faiveley (2 units) with location at both ends of the coach. This
selection are supported by numerical calculation from Fluent (CFD) that found the
temperature and air speed are 24,16C and 0,38 m/s at 1,1 m from the floor,
