Description
Summary:Fossil energy is one source of energy. In Steam or Gas Powerplant, fossil energy is converted into electrical energy. Indonesia is one of the supplier and user of world fossil energy as well. Indonesia fossil energy dependence will may result in a lot of things, like scarcity problem and CO2 gas emissions. In addition, Indonesia's community lives in the remote areas still can not enjoy the electrical services. About 27% of society in Indonesia or about 13 million homes have not been able to enjoy the service of electricity. Therefore, we need some of alternative energy. To select one, energy sources should be renewable, environmentally friendly and can be used on remote places in Indonesia. One alternative energy is the energy of water. Water energy is a renewable energy, environmentally friendly and can be used in remote areas. Energy of water in Indonesia's new termanfaatkan only 4.3 GW, and that is only 6% of the total water potential. Therefore, the challenges that will confront us next is how to harness the energy of the water with waterwheel that is suitable for small scale. Undershot waterwheel works utilizing the kinetic energy of the water and a bit of its potential energy. Flow velocitiy and immersed wheel height parameter affect the output power of this type of waterwheel. From testing, this waterwheel can generates electric power of 0,1204 Watts at h 1 cm and v 1.8 m/s; and 0,1552 Watts at h 2 cm and the same v.
