Description
Summary:The reduction in fossil energy is inversely proportional to the increasing energy demand. Many innovations done to overcome these problems either find new sources of energy or maximizing the existing equipment in using fuel. One of the tools that maximized is vehicle Based on that background, one of the largest oil company named Shell held the competition which aims to produce energy-efficient vehicles named Shell Eco Marathon (SEM). Rakata is one of the team that represent ITB since 2010. There are several ways to reduce the fuel consumption in vehicle. One of ways is reducing the drag force on the body of the vehicle which is will reduced engine workload . Airflow simulations based on the Rakata’s vehicle body that used in SEM Asia 2012. The results of the simulations showed Coefficient of Drag (Cd) and Coefficient of Lift (Cl) from Rakata vehicle is 0.24 and -0.06. The Cd of Rakata vehicle value is quite large when compared to other mass transportation. Therefore, the body shape will be modified based on the results of the analysis. After several modifications, streamlined vehicle body shape is generated. The simulation results showed that the Cd and Cl of the vehicle are 0.105 and -0.14. These Cd and Cl are good enough to participate SEM Asia 2013
