Machining process depends on the cutting tools that are used. Good cutting tools will produce good quality and precision products. One of properties of good cutting tools is high wear resistance. The purpose of this research is to get good wear resistance cutting tools using simple technology. Cutting tools that used in this final project are triangular insert cutting tools, in accordance to ISO TNMA 160406. The cutting tools were carburized with pack carburizing method with 90% carcoal + 10% BaCO3. Carburizing process was done by heating the cutting tools to 950OC, held for 4 hours and slowly cooled in the furnace. Cutting tools were quench hardened by heating to 850OC for 5 minutes and then water queched. The cutting tools were tested using turning process. The turning process was done with various cutting speeds (16, 20, 30 m/min). Wear of the tools were then observed with stereo microscope. This research shows that wear did not occur on the cutting tools that tested with cutting speed of 16 m/min. Wear occured on the cutting tools that was tested with cutting speed of 20 m/min. The highest wear occur on the cutting tools that was tested with cutting speed of 30 m/min. The optimum cutting speed for the cutting tools is found to be 16 m/min.
