Blora is a regency in Central Java province which is famous for the best quality wood production, Barongan art, and Samin culture. To accommodate the arts and cultural activities as well as to introduce Samin to the public as a typical characteristic of Blora, then a Cultural Center project initiated as a place for developing and preservation of art and culture from Blora Regency. The project is located on Jalan Mr. Iskandar, Blora, about 2 km from the capital regency and 4 km from Samin Tourism Village. The project area is approximately 33,500 sqm in the rice field area. The main functions that are accommodated in the Blora Cultural Center are preservation, performance, education and development with facilities such as Samin gallery, open theater, closed theater, park theater, studio, art hall, library, cafeteria, souvenir shop and guesthouse. The main issues that are taken into consideration in the design include image issues, especially image locality, interaction issues among users, circulation issues, and technical issues. The concepts proposed in the design are based on the Samin’s cultural philosophical approach and the functional approach related to the facilities that must be provided. Both approaches resulted in a concept that contained the value of locality in it, which will then be elaborated into a building complex that can realize the development and preservation of the culture of Blora Regency.
