Therefore, current researches are done on many types of composite materials. Composite is defined as a merger of two or more types of materials in macroscopic. The purpose of this method is to get the advantage from each of those materials. One of the revival is the use of natural fibers as constituents of composite material related to green and sustainable program material. In this study we use hemp fiber because it has abundant potential in Indonesia and its utilization is still minimal. This research aims to obtain mechanical characteristics of hemp fibres with a matrix of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene). The focus of this research is testing the tensile strength of the flax-fiber composite lamina HDPE refers to the standard of the American Society for Testing materials (ASTM) D3039/D 3039M. Flax fibers that used are continuous fibers of the order 0°, 0°/90°, and discontinuous fiber with random order. The manufacturing method that used ishot compression molding at ± 150° celcius. The results of the test were analyzed using statistical approaches by Weibull Distribution. This is necessary because the manufacturing process and mechanical properties of natural fibers will vary resulting tensile strength that varies as well. Analysis equipped with optical microscope test with magnification up to 1000 to see the internal structure of a composite lamina. The conclusion of this research is the flax fibers can potentially be developed further. The value of the tensile strength obtained is 82 MPa for reliability of 0.9 and 112 Mpa for reliability 0.5 in continuous fiber composite with longitudinal order . For continuous fiber composite with order 0°/90° value derived is 21 MPa for reliability of 0.9 and 40.1 Mpa for reliability of 0.5. For discontinuous fiber composite the tensile strength obtained was 17.3 MPa for reliability of 0.9 and 24.8 Mpa for reliability of 0.5. text
