This data are necessary because the characteristics of materials at high strain rates will be different compared to quasi – static. In this final project performed numerical simulations for a design of SHPB to evaluate whether it can function as specifications which are stated in designing process. Numerical simulations are done by LS – DYNA by modeling every main parameter of this SHPB, that are bar material and geometry system, specimen material and geometry system, and striker velocity. Bar system is modeled as elastic system because in its working principle, it work in elastic region, whereas specimen as plastic material. In the simulation, characteristics of specimen material are given as input, and the data of simulation result as elastic stress wave in bar system are expected to provide the data of material characteristics which is close to specimen material characteristics. After getting the model, parametric study are performed to striker length and striker velocity to evaluate the influences of every parameter to SHPB performance.
