In this thesis, designed screw conveyor dryer for drying low rank coal. Screw conveyor dryer is designed for lignite coals, with the final target moisture content in coal by 10%. Screw conveyor dryer is designed with two modes of drying which are indirect drying and direct drying. There is also modification of screw conveyor flight so that there are lift anf fall effect in the screw conveyor. This effect will increase the heat and mass transfer processes. The design of the main dimensions of screw conveyor dryer is based on CEMC (Conveyor Engineering and Manufacturing Corporation) catalogue. The results obtained are 2.39 m long screw conveyor, with a screw diameter of 0.14 m, a pitch distance of 0.095 m, and a 161 watt motor power. Heat required for drying is calculated based on the energy balance and the results obtained is 253050.04 kJ / hour. text
