This area is very risky to the danger of landslides/ land movements because it has a very steep terrain (70º to 85º), inappropriate land use and high rainfall throughout the year. Therefore investigation of potential landslides is very important to do, considering the increasing frequency of landslides in Sitinjau Laut area in years. This has caused a significant loss of property and life. In order to investigate potential landslides in Sitinjau Laut area, an analysis of potential landslides was carried out in five locations with a rating method for seven variables, namely; slope, soil and rock structure, effective soil depth, rock weathering level, land use, vegetation density and rainfall. To determine the value of the seven variables, a survey and field research were conducted. The data obtained from each variable is summed as the total value so that the level of potential landslides can be determined at each of these locations. The results obtained from the study are, the first location has a total value of 26 with a category of severe landslide potential, the second location has a total value of 26 with a category of severe landslide potential, the third location has a total value of 24 with a category of severe landslide potential, the fourth location has a total value of 21 with the category of moderate landslide potential and the fifth location has a total value of 22 with a moderate potential landslide category. In this research, the physical phenomena of landslides are also carried out as an effort to educate, prevent and mitigate disasters for the community and input to stakeholders in the context of landslide mitigation in the region. So that the risks posed by landslides in this area are expected to be minimized for the future. text |

Sitinjau Laut Area is a hilly area located at the eastern end of Lubuk Kilangan sub-district,
Padang. This area is very risky to the danger of landslides/ land movements because it has a very
steep terrain (70º to 85º), inappropriate land use and high rainfall throughout the year. Therefore
investigation of potential landslides is very important to do, considering the increasing frequency
of landslides in Sitinjau Laut area in years. This has caused a significant loss of property and
life.
In order to investigate potential landslides in Sitinjau Laut area, an analysis of potential
landslides was carried out in five locations with a rating method for seven variables, namely;
slope, soil and rock structure, effective soil depth, rock weathering level, land use, vegetation
density and rainfall. To determine the value of the seven variables, a survey and field research
were conducted. The data obtained from each variable is summed as the total value so that the
level of potential landslides can be determined at each of these locations. The results obtained
from the study are, the first location has a total value of 26 with a category of severe landslide
potential, the second location has a total value of 26 with a category of severe landslide potential,
the third location has a total value of 24 with a category of severe landslide potential, the fourth
location has a total value of 21 with the category of moderate landslide potential and the fifth
location has a total value of 22 with a moderate potential landslide category.
In this research, the physical phenomena of landslides are also carried out as an effort to educate,
prevent and mitigate disasters for the community and input to stakeholders in the context of
landslide mitigation in the region. So that the risks posed by landslides in this area are expected
to be minimized for the future.
