Description
Summary:The main purpose of this final project is to analyze the conformity of measured vibration and sound signals from various configuration of reciprocating machine. The result of the experiment is expected to explore the possibility of utilizing sound signal in Condition Based Maintenance (CBM). In contrast to scheduled maintenance which perform the maintenance in fixed time interval, the decision to fix any equipment is determined based on monitoring results in CBM. The maintenance will be executed only if the monitoring results show the equipment is going to fail or deteriorate. It will reduce down time as well as unnecessary maintenance costs by performing this maintenance method. Experiments and the utilization of sound signals in Condition Based Maintenance are still rare. However, previous work about the use of sound measurement of silent chain has shown promising results. The case which is going to be observed in this experiment is common faults in various configurations of reciprocating machine . The experiment is performed by using four cylinder test rig which is able to simulate four configurations of recriprocating machine. These configurations are the configuration which can produce both primary and secondary forces, the configuration which produce only primary force, secondary force, and the configuration which is able to eliminate primary and secondary forces. The test rig for this experiment is an existing test rig in Mechanics and Mechanical Construction Laboratory which was made and distributed by TecQuipment Limited. The measurement of vibration datas is done by using accelerometer as a sensor and using a National Instrument device for data acquisition. As for the measurement of sound datas, microphone is used as a sensor, and National Instrument device is used for data acquisition also. The measurement results of vibration and sound signals are presented in time and frequency domain. We use auto power spectral density (auto-PSD) to perform frequency analysis. Conformity analysis in this experiment is performed qualitatively by comparing averaged auto PSD of vibration and sound signals from each configuration. The result shows that both vibration and sound signal in averaged auto PSD curve have similar characteristic. Therefore, it can be concluded that for reciprocating machine cases, sound measurement may be utilized in Condition Based Maintenance.
