From the visual and weight loss analysis, the optimum pH for corrosion protection is 5, almost 0,25 times weight gain of the unplated substrat The specimen was characterized using EDS to measure the phosphor concentration in the layer formed from pH 3, 5, and 7 specimens. The layer in pH 5 contains the largest concentration of phosphor which is 8.6%. The higher concentration of P, the better deposit resistance against corrosion. text |

Electroless nickel plating is a method to plating nickel layer to a substrate
without using electrical current from the outside of plating solvent. The
property of the layer has a lot of variation, therefore the application of
electroless nickel plating is very wide. It can be used in oil industry, chemical,
automotive, and electrical. The most common application of electroless niclek
plating is as a protection from corrosive environment.
The objective of this research is to study the effect of plating pH to the
property of layer and the base metal corrosion resistance. The solvent used in
this research was nickel sulphate, sodium hypophosphite, and lactate acid. The
variation of pH was made by adding the liquid sodium hydroxide. The
optimum pH for plating purpose that can made the highest hardness number is
5, which is 423 VHN in average.
Specimen was tested using salt spray chamber NSS type. From the visual and
weight loss analysis, the optimum pH for corrosion protection is 5, almost 0,25
times weight gain of the unplated substrat
The specimen was characterized using EDS to measure the phosphor
concentration in the layer formed from pH 3, 5, and 7 specimens. The layer in
pH 5 contains the largest concentration of phosphor which is 8.6%. The higher
concentration of P, the better deposit resistance against corrosion. |
