Description
Summary:Solar energy is one type of renewable energy that could become a solution to the problem of the world's energy crisis. Technology wich is commonly used to convert solar energy into electricity is solar cell or photovoltaic (PV). However, the use of PV is still hampered by low electrical efficiency and reduced electrical efficiency due to increased of PV’s temperatures. To overcome the aforementioned problem, Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) and white Vaseline as Phase Change Material (PCM) are use in this research. Function of MPPT is to obtain maximum power from the PV, while PCM serves to inhibit PV temperature rise. By combining MPPT and PCM, electrical efficiency of solar cell is expected to increase. From the test results, it is known that by using PCM, electrical efficiency of PV can be increased from 8.44% to 9.60%. On the other hand, by using MPPT, the efficiency can be increased from 9.59% to 17.58%. By combining PCM and MPPT, the electrical efficiency of PV can be increased from 10.37% to 19.81%. Thus, it can be concluded that the highest increase of PV’s electrical efficiency can be obtained by using combination of PCM and MPPT.
